ACSC/SAPA (South East Asia)
The Solidarity for Asian People’s Advocacy (SAPA} was formally established at its first regional consultation in Bangkok from 3-4 February 2006. It was attended by more than 50 participants representing about 30 civil society organisations (CSOs) from the Asian region.
SAPA was born out of common concerns about how to enhance the effectiveness and impact of civil society advocacy by improving communication, cooperation and coordination among non-governmental organisations (NGOs) operating regionally, in the face of rapidly increasing and multiplying inter-governmental processes and meetings in Asia.
SAPA Membership is on an organisational, not individual, basis. Asian social movements and CSOs - including NGOs, people’s organisations and trade unions engaged in action, advocacy and lobbying at the level of inter-governmental processes and organisations - can be members if they subscribe to the aims of SAPA. Oher organisations who share the aims of SAPA can join SAPA as partners. Presently, more than 100 CSOs - national and regional - are members of SAPA .
